Seperti sudah diduga sebelumnya, sesuai dengan selera orang lokal & tv lokal yang cenderung ke sepakbola Inggris, tidak akan ada siaran langsung sepakbola persahabatan Scotland vs Argentina. TV lokal (cable tv) lebih senang menyiarkan Germany vs England & San Marino vs Czecho. Ada sih siarang ulang tapi hanya disiarkan satu kali dan itupun jam 11.45 pagi keesokan harinya, saat jam kantor. :(

Bagi saya partai Scotland vs Argentina lebih istimewa setidaknya dibandingkan San Marino vs Czecho karena partai tersebut merupakan debut pertama Maradona sebagai pelatih nasional Argentina. Sepertinya saya harus mencari siarannya di internet.

Celine mulai konsisten memanggil ayahnya walaupun tetap menggunakan kata ‘Yayah’ dan bukan ‘Ayah’. Tiap hari dia angkat telepon dan mengucapkan ‘Yayah .. yayah .. yayah ..’ (terjemahan: ‘Halo, Ayah!’). Kalau bangun tidur juga yang dicari ayahnya.

Di hari terakhir sekolahnya, mbak Wina bagi-bagi goodie bag. Ultahnya sih masih 2 bulan lagi, tanggal 01.01, tapi karena tanggal tersebut selalu jatuh di tanggal liburan (dan semua orang merayakannya ;) ), jadi dibagikan saja sebelum liburan.

Mbak Wina habis jatuh tersungkur hari ini karena lupa diri berlari terlalu kencang dan tersandung sepulang sekolah. Dagu & tangannya lecet sedikit, tapi yang paling parah (hanya sedikit sih sebenarnya) untuk standar Wina adalah dengkul kirinya yang membuat dia merasa sakit jika mau jalan. It only costs you SGD 2 to feed the birds in JBP, but the kids love it. Although if the birds were sometimes very aggressive and they scared the kids away.

Other than reading my kids stories, sometimes, but not very often, I used audiobooks from Audible to listen to the stories, using my handphone as the audio player (with AudiblePlayer installed). But Wina would prefer myself reading the stories to her and Celine would prefer the handphone showing her Pingu video than listening to the stories.

Selain membacakan cerita ke anak2 saya, kadang2 walaupun jarang, saya menggunakan audiobook dari Audible untuk mendengarkan cerita bersama mereka. Saya gunakan handphone saya dengan software AudiblePlayer. Tapi seringnya Wina lebih suka mendengarkan cerita yang dibacakan Ayahnya dan Celine lebih suka menikmati Pingu di handphone tersebut.

Now I plan to try a different way, but still using the audiobooks, especially since now Audible has created AudibleKids with different website layout and look-and-feel, albeit in the same domain audible.com but using different subdomain kids.audible.com.

Saya ingin mencoba cara lain walaupun tetap menggunakan audibook, apalagi sekarang Audible menyajikan audiobook2 tersebut melalui AudibleKids, sebuah website dengan deasin berbeda agar lebih cocok untuk anak-anak, para orang tua dan guru atau pendidik.

Anyway, as I was saying, I want to try a different way. This time I need to have the books with pictures with me or I draw the pictures about the stories myself. I know I can’t draw pretty pictures, but I can try, can’t I?

Balik ke topik semula, saya ingin mencoba cara yang sedikit berbeda. Kali ini saya harus menggunakan buku dengan cerita yang sama beserta gambar-gambar di dalamnya atau jika saya tidak sempat mendapatkan bukunya, saya harus siap menggunakan keahlian menggambar saya (yang sebenarnya sangat terbatas) untuk mengambarkan cerita2 tersebut.

So, let’s just say if we want to listen to Lemony Snicket’s books or Rapunzel or Winnie the Pooh, I need to have the book with pictures with me, or I should be ready to draw the stories to them.

Jadi, misalkan kami akan mendengarkan buku2 dari Lemony Snicket atau cerita Rapunzel (ach, nein!) atau Winnie the Pooh, saya perlu buku2 cerita tersebut dengan gambarnya atau saya siapkan senjata pensil warna saya (punya Wina & Celine sih sebenarnya).

But then I think, I will have other problems, because Celine will try to dominate the book for herself or try to dominate the drawing for herself, but hey .. that’s the fun, right?

Masalahnya, seperti biasa, saya tahu bakal ada keributan yang lain, karena Celine lebih suka menguasai buku2 tersebut atau pensil2 warna tersebut. :))

Where would I wanna live in real life?
My wife loves to live in the mountains, where the cool wind breeze everyday and you don’t have to use aircon to prevent the heat. :D And where you can do a little bit of farming. Certainly we couldn’t do those in Singapore, but she’s happy here still.
As for me, I could live anywhere, as long as my daughters could play happily everyday.
My daughters? They will follow their parents anywhere.

Singapore had been a place where we lived for almost the last 8 years. It has a very special place in our heart. We had Wina & Celine here. They grew up here. We had a fair share of happy & sad memories here. We had and still have best friends here, but after eight years, is it maybe time for us to go somewhere else? Is it time to go back home? Maybe.

So which town should we go next?

Just found out a new service provided by Nokia. The good thing is, it provides (or promised for now) unlimited storage, and it can display full size original photo. It seems like a free version of Flickr. I haven’t tried extensively but other than photo uploads & sharing, it also provides video sharing, and much more.

Baru tahu ada service ini dari Nokia setelah lihat2 Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. Seperti Flickr, dia menyediakan unlimited storage dan foto dalam ukuran aslinya setelah kita upload, hanya saja ini gratis. Selain foto, ada juga video dan banyak lagi.

The first day after Hari Raya, and after all those Ketupat & Opor the day before, I was brought back to reality. Back to Chicken Rice.

I found out that not even one Malay food stall was open, and I have to go to this Chinese food stall selling Chicken Rice (it was a halal one, of course). Not that I complained, I liked it a lot. It brought back memories indeed, since this is the same chicken rice stall where I tasted my first one in my first few days in Singapore. Then, myself and some of my colleagues in SingTel (our office in Dover road) liked to go there sometimes.

Hari pertama setelah Hari Raya, dan setelah puas dengan ketupat dan opor sehari sebelumnya, saya harus kembali ke dunia nyata, kembali makan Nasi Ayam.

Ternyata tidak ada satupun warung makanan Melayu yang buka, jadi saya terpaksa makan di warung makan Chinese dengan Nasi Ayamnya. Tapi saya suka kok. Saya ingat hampir 8 tahun lalu, waktu saya masih di SingTel, saya & teman2 kantor saya kadang pergi kesini untuk makan Nasi Ayam.

- Rumah kediaman Pak Ibnu & Ibu Dian (Sudah lama kenalnya karena dulu sering nge-gank bowling bareng, tapi malah baru pertama kali saya ke rumah beliau. Perlu banyak silaturahmi nih)
- Rumah kediaman Pak Toriq (yang ini tidak ada fotonya)
- Rumah kediaman Pak Sigit (nu iyeu, teu aya fotona oge)

Ramadhan tinggal beberapa jam lagi, akhirnya saya sempatkan beli buku terbaru dari Paolini, Brisingr. Sudah ada di Kinokuniya seminggu lebih yang lalu sejak peluncuran tapi saya mau lebih banyak baca al qur'an di bulan ramadhan. Brisingr could wait!

Mari kita lihat apakah yang ini lebih bagus dari buku pertama & kedua (wuih, katanya masih ada yang keempat & terakhir). Katanya lebih bagus atau sama hebohnya dengan Harry Potter (yeah, right!).

Kemaren, saya juga nemu bukunya Fuyumi Ono, Twelve Kingdoms, ada buku ke-1 & ke-2. Sayang buku yang keduanya terlalu mahal padahal lebih tipis gara-gara hardcover. Jadi saya hanya beli yang pertama. Saya mau tahu apakah lebih bagus bukunya dibanding anime-nya. Saya juga untaian kata2 di anime, mudah2an bukunya lebih baik. Saya mau baca sambil juga dibacakan untuk Wina & Celine (Kids, this time, no Winnie the Pooh, ok?).

Tapi mengenai buku, saya masih ada hutang untuk membacakan buku Heidi oleh Spyri, Inkheart, dan the ever lasting The Secret Garden, ke anak-anak saya.

Dan ngomong-ngomong tentang buku, saya sudah lama tidak baca buku bahasa Indonesia. Laskar Pelangi sepertinya bagus untuk memulainya lagi. Cari dimana ya?
